The Message

This is my favorite Bible. I have lots of Bible, NIV, KJV, New American Standard, etc. and I refer to this Bible the most. I even bring it to church so I can clarify what the minister is reading. I call it my Bible for dummies. I sometimes get lost in the language of my other Bibles, but this one makes it easier for me. Does anyone else like this Bible? My minister refers to it on occasion at church and I notice more and more people carrying it around on Sunday.

Christina,

I really like to look at several different Bibles to see how they are worded, but definitely the Message is good to check to understand.

How are you doing?

Thanks for visiting. I'm not exactly sure what happened to Joyce that she doesn't want a relationship with God. It may have had something to do with when her Mom died. But, I believe she will come around.

I'm praying for you and your family!

Thanks for being you!
Cheryl

I love many translations but I do like the message. It is like a great commentary while you read. Eugene Peterson's insight is wonderful.
Much love,

Hey!
I have my computer back! They replaced the hard drive so now I am trying to go around and bookmark everybody again! :)

I go back and forth all of the time with what Bible translation I read. Sometimes I keep two with me so I can look at both of them.

No matter what translation, though, I just love His Word!

Blessings, sweet Christina!
Love,
Kimberly

I was so sorry to read this. The Message is not a form of the Bible, it is a loosly interpeted version of a devotional. It specifiacally contradicts Scripture and LIES about God's word. I pray that you will be open to exploring God's Word through Truth, and not false interpretations like this.

Putting his own "take" on the Bible is precisely what he has done throughout The Message. But on the other hand, in the same article he admits that he does "take considerable liberties" with the text. He says that when pastors have told him they have used it in preaching he warns them that "they miss the connection with the past with this translation."

He indicates that it is for "first-time readers," and that these readers should quickly "get weaned from it."

In an interview published in Christianity Today when he (Eugene Peterson)was asked, "Do you think The Message will be well suited for reading in worship?" he replied, "When I'm in a congregation where somebody uses it in the Scripture reading, it makes me a little uneasy. I would never recommend it be used as saying, 'Hear the Word of God from The Message.' But it surprises me how many do. You can't tell people they can't do it."

I have posted a LOT more infomation here:
http://iammommy.typepad.com/my_weblog/2008/07/the-message.html
I pray you will read and clikc on the links and learn as much as you can about this book before you recommned it to others. I believe it is our responsibility as believers to represent truth...God's ABSOLUTE Truth.

PLease recieve this as it is intended...

I just wanted to clarify too-I do not rec. using the Message translation for personal in-depth study. I look at it as a commentary more than a translation. I always compare it to another translation to be sure it is true to the word. I rec. this in your using it.
Much love,
Angela
