New Year Tweaking

A New Year's resolution is something that goes in one year and out the other. ~Author Unknown

I don't usually make resolutions except one's as a kind of a joke. For instance, two years ago I made a resolution to never run out of French Vanilla creamer the whole year. Funny I actually kept this one.

This year I am going to make one because we are moving in June and I need to start clearing out some of my stuff. By stuff I mean books. Of course I wouldn't think of donating a book I haven't already read so I have decided to try to make a dent in my to be read pile. We are talking about 200 books here. Okay more like a library, not a pile. So my resolution is going to be not to buy any books or magazines for the year 2010. Sorry Amazon. This does not exempt me from borrowing books, or reading magazines at the library. This resolution is going to be one hard one to try to keep because I seriously believe the hunt is almost as much fun as the score in the book buying department for me. My daughter suggests that in the event of a total meltdown I could purchase a Kindle book, which isn't really a book, but we all know that's kind of stretch. Anyway wish me luck. What is everyone else going to give up for the new year?

Take One

Right now I am reading the book Take One by Karen Kingsbury. I an totally enjoying it. I haven't had a lot of reading time, but when I do get a little I grab this book and fit a little reading in. I am also including the video clip for this book in case you want to watch it. This is a really good book for all you Christian book readers out there.

Coffee anyone!

My dear hubby fell in love with this thing at the car dealership. I'm not sure how much coffee he actually drank, but I'm sure it was a lot. He raved about this thing all the way home. Does anyone actually have this? If so how do you like it?

Mele Kalikimaka

Merry Christmas to all my friends out there. I hope you are all blessed this day and all the others that follow.

Jenny from Addison Road had an interesting discussion post about her song "What do I know of Holy." on her blog Cupcakes, Sprinkles and other Happy Things. If you get a chance go on over and read this post. I really enjoyed it. It gave a lot of insight into where the song came from, or in other words what the thoughts were in writing this song.

Royal Rangers ice skating fiasco

Yesterday the Royal Rangers (boy's) church group went ice skating. I was a little worried because my 6 year old has never been, but he did fine. I thought I would have a heart attack watching him barrel around the rink, but thankfully I survived.

Later at night we attended service where a guest speaker, Ken Gaub, spoke. He was very funny and had an awesome message. If you ever get a chance to hear this guy you should. It felt like the service went by in a flash.

Christmas eve I will be picking up my dinner from Safeway. Talk about lazy. It is always such a madhouse here in the morning that I don't have much time for cooking, so I cheat. Total meal $46.00, everything included, Not too bad. Does anyone else out there buy a meal from the store or is everyone cooking from scratch?

Christmas in Cannan

I had tivo'd a show from the Hallmark channel the other day called "Christmas in Cannan," with Billy Ray Cyrus.  It was a story about a friendship developed between a white kid and a black kid.  It was such a good movie.  Our whole family really enjoyed this one. If you get the chance to see this one you should.  It was one of those feel good Christmas movie's that was totally enjoyed by everyone.

Opportunity

Here is the new housing in Alaska. We may have an opportunity to go there if the Army can get a slot for us. How funny to go from all hot weather to all cold. We have lived in Germany, land of the black ice, so we are not scared off by cold. In fact Germany was one of the places we truly would go to again. Although we love Hawaii we are up for the adventure. Only time will tell.

My son Dominic is learning about healthy eating and the food pyramid. I informed him that we use Harvard's pyramid because it is healthy, not the govt.'s. So today he brought this picture to school to tell his teacher that his mom said this is the pyramid we use and this is the one we will continue to use. I told him don't argue with your teacher because she has to teach this to them, but just tell them your mom is a health food fanatic who spends her days browsing Whole Foods.

What's worse then dying your sons football gloves pink? Finding out they were dyed by his mom's pink panties. No, finding out they were my son's friends gloves, and they were already pink, after having washed them 3 times.

A mom's post from Israel, shame on you Obama

Great post by a mom who's son is in the Irsraeli Army and what Obama is trying to do in their country, so sad. A Soldiers Mother.
The boys dressed for Royal Rangers. I am blessed to have boys that are church going and take their love of God seriously. They understand that they need to stand up for their beliefs and my son Jr. even said "how can a man who supporst pro-choice be allowed to speak in schools in a Christian nation?" I said "Your school won't be showing it, but it saddens me that some schools will allow anything to be shown, no wonder our education system is such a mess. I'm just glad that at 11 my son recognizes this.

The top picture is of Jr. and Darrian dressed for Royal Rangers. This is Darrian's first time going. The bottom two are of Darrian on the swing enjoying the outside breeze.

Too cute

Here's how this works. My daughter Vanessa says "Hey mom can you take me to Payless for Shoe store." "Yes." Am I looking for shoes? No. But what do I spot immediately? These, shown in above picture. How cute are they? So then I see it's buy one get one free and I think "Gee Darrian needs a new pair of wide width shoes (they make these for kids with fat feet) and I go find a pair and try them on him. Of course they fit great so I have to buy them and of course I have to add shoes to get the free pair, so i am now the proud owner of these (again pictured above). I say to Vanessa "aren't these cute" and she says "they look kind of kidish." Well I like them anyway. Kidish or not, they're mine!!!!!

clips

I am putting up a bunch of clips for DH to watch from Iraq so bear with me. We are a huge football family so in the fall this is what we mostly do. In fact UH plays Friday," Go Warriors!" What can I say I can't help myself. The addiction has gotten so bad that I am seriously thinking of going to a 55 inch LCD, from a 42" LCD, That's what I get for spawning mostly boys LOL!!!!!

My 3 favorite clips from the weekend and why...

The first 2 clips are at the top of my list. Why because one is of my sons PeeWee Pop Warner team in prayer with their opponents. The kid in the middle who is praying is only 9 years old and attends our church's school Christian Academy. I hear on the mainland this might not be acceptable, but here in Hawaii where religion is extremely important the kids still kneel in public for prayer. The second clip is of my son Brandon's high school football team in prayer before his game. Once again this is the most important part of the game according to my son's coach who is a very religious guys.
.

The bottom picture is of my son Jr. and his friend DJ (Damian), My son's skinny Hispanic legs and DJ's skinny black legs, so like Brandon and Mark, always together. It makes me smile to know that these kids can live in their little world where race doesn't matter. In fact the rest of their friends are Samoan. Philippino and Hawaiian. They don't know how blessed they are.

Back to Iraq

Well Dominic left today to go back to Iraq for a few more months, but it's better then a whole year. Hopefully he will be back early or late November. There has been many changes so the guys don't have final re-deployment orders yet.
Today I went back to being the driver so I had a busy day driving Jr. to practice and then taking Vanessa to church net group. Hubby does some when he is here, but it's back to me for now.
I guess I should pull the crock pot back out or none of us will get any dinner on time anytime soon.

Go Brandon! Radford 35 Anuenue 0

My son Brandon plays for Radford who had an awesome game against Anuenue. Radford rumbles past Anuenue

J.B. Fontenot threw two touchdown passes to lead host Radford past Anuenue 35-0 in the OIA White football opener for both teams last night.

TJ Reid caught both of Fontenot's TD passes and finished with four receptions for 95 yards.

Phil Hogan led the Radford running attack with 108 yards and two touchdowns on just six carries.

Happy Birthday babe

It's my hubbie's birthday today and he is home on R&R from Iraq. We will celebrate it by going to my older son's football game. With so many kids we don't have much time for anything else, but luckily we enjoy spending it with them more then we enjoy time alone. Anyway hubby is just glad to be home to be able to celebrate his birthday with his family. We love you babe.

Friday Funnies

After the fall in Garden of Eden, Adam was walking with his sons Cain and Abel.

They passed by the ruins of the Garden of Eden. One of the boys asked, "What's
that?" Adam replied, "Boys, that's where your mother ate us out of house and
home."

My dream job

I love to read and I love book stores. So when my daughter told me today that her friend from Switzerland got a job on a floating book shop I couldn't believe there was such a thing. I told my family that if they came home one day and found me gone I probably ran away to work on the floating bookstore under an assumed name of course.

Polygamy

A child at a Christian school was studying the early days of Mormonism in his class.

He wrote on his paper, "The early Mormons believed in having more than one wife. This is called polygamy. But we believe in having only one wife. This is called monotony."

3 Truths

There are three truths in life:

1. Jews do not recognize Jesus as the Messiah.

2. Protestants do not recognize the Pope as the leader of the Christian faith.

3. Baptists do not recognize each other in the liquor store.

I had to have this

I'm obsessed with old fashioned things. It's funny how in time things become modern and then time is spent making them look old again. Of course you can play not only records, but Cd's, cassettes, and hook up an Ipod to this thing. My daughter saw me with these 45's and said "Oh you have vinyl's?" "No, I have records, we never called them vinyl's or albums, it was always I'm going to buy a record." She's still calling them vinyl's. She said "I thought they were bigger." "It's not a 33, it's a 45." She said "you only get two songs?" "Yes, on a 45 you only get 2 songs." She finally places it on the turn table, looks at me, and says "How do you make it go?" "Then she said "I thought they had CD's since you were born." When I told her no she exclaimed "when did you get CD"s, not until the 90's!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!" I asked her if she ever saw an 8 track. I guess all that wasn't so bad until my 10 year old ran up to me holding a cassette and yelled "mama, what's this?" Okay maybe this is enough with the old stuff, I can only imagine what they will say when I buy the old fashioned pay phone. "You mean you have a cord that keeps you stuck to the phone? Gee that's too bad." "If you think that's bad you should know there is no call waiting, texting, or e-mail either."

How to Get Into Heaven

A man dies and mets St. Peter at the Pearly Gates. Peter says to the man, "Here's how it works. You need to have one hundred points to get into heaven. You tell me about all the good things you've done. They are all worth a certain number of points. If your total is one hundred or more, you can come in."

"Well," says the man. "I was happily married to the same woman for 52 years. I never looked at another woman. I was attentive and loved her dearly."

"That's great," says St. Peter. "That'll be two points."

"Hmmm," says the man. "This is going to be harder than I thought. Well, I attended church regularly, volunteered my time and tithed faithfully."

"Wonderful," says St. Peter, "That's worth another point."

"One point!" says the man. "Okay, okay. I was involved with a prison ministry for twenty-five years. I went into the prison, at least monthly, and shared Jesus with them."

"Wow!" says St. Peter. "That's another two points!"

"Only two points!" says the man. "At this rate, it'll be by the grace of God that'll I'll ever get into this place."

"Bingo!" says St. Peter. "That's one hundred points! Come on in."

Camp

My two boys, Dominic 11 and Damian 10, are attending a camp called Camp DEFY. You can read about it here. This camp is supposed to teach the kids how to avoid drugs, build their self esteem, and some other things. It is a great camp for kids and thanks to the military they can attend free with most of their friends. In the article it describes how intense this camp can actually be but so far the boys really like it. At the end of the month they will attend Camp Operation Purple which is a 6 day overnight camp for kids with a deployed parent. Again thanks to the military it will be free. It is a place the kids can have fun and talk about deployment issues with other kids in the same boat. Is anyone else's kids attending camp? If so how do they like it?

Entering Pearl Harbor 4th of July block party

I am posting a ton of pictures for hubby so he can see what we did for our 4th of July. We went to Pearl Harbor for their annual 4th of July block party and the kids had a blast. It is a neat little day of fun for all. Hope you all enjoyed your 4th of July.
